The general public can start purchasing initial spaceflight reservations with aerospace firm Virgin Galactic starting February 16, the company announced in a statement.
- Chief Executive Michael Colglazier said the company plans to onboard its first 1,000 customers at the start of commercial service later this year. Customers will secure spaceflight reservations and membership of its Future Astronaut community.
- Members will be given access to events, trips, and space-readiness activities as they wait for their spaceflight, which will launch from Spaceport America in New Mexico. They will be undertaking several days of preparation for spaceflight preparedness.
- Virgin Galactic said the spaceflight will be a 90-minute journey, with astronauts enjoying several minutes of out-of-seat weightlessness and will be able to view Earth from the spaceship’s 17 windows.
- Reservations are priced at $450,000, with an initial deposit of $150,000. Customers will have to complete the payment prior to the flight, with applications processed through the firm’s official website. SPCE is up 11.30% premarket.
