The Universal Music Group (UMG) has filed four trademarks linked to Bored Ape Yacht Club in a possible step towards its non-fungible token band, according to filings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- The trademark applications come with plans for crypto, utility, application, and non-fungible tokens along with online retail store services which feature physical and virtual merchandise.
- The applications are also for providing temporary use of non-downloadable software where users will be able to trade products using digital and virtual currency, cryptocurrency, digital assets, and other tokens.
- The filings come after UMG acquired Bored Ape #5537 last month for 125 Ether, in line with its plans to establish the character as the leader of its “Kingship” NFT band. It is now estimated to be worth $470,000, versus the purchase price of $360,000.
UMG, in December 2021, partnered with metaverse avatar firm Genies, in line with its goal for the company’s clients to establish their own virtual brands. UMGP is up 20.17%.
