Software giant Microsoft is in talks to buy video game chat platform Discord for $10 billion, according to a report.
- Discord is still in talks with other potential buyers, and no deal has been finalized so far.
- An analyst said the deal “would be a natural fit” for Microsoft’s Xbox business, benefitting from Discord’s 100 million active users.
- Discord breached $100 million revenues in 2020, and raised $100 million in a $7-billion valuation.
- Discord gained infamy after it was used to plan activities in racially-charged conflicts in Charlottesville. It banned popular Reddit trading group WallStreetbets in January for citing hate speech.
Microsoft (MSFT:Nasdaq) shares are up 0.17% in premarket.
