Michigan-based startup firm Our Next Energy (ONE) found that its prototype battery has delivered over 750 miles in a Tesla Model S before recharging, Reuters reported.
- ONE said the tests were done on roads across Michigan in December at an average speed of 55 miles per hour. It used the Tesla Model S for the prototype, as it said the unit provided enough space to fit the battery.
- Founder and Chief Executive Officer Mujeeb Ijaz said the Gemini battery seeks to eliminate both nickel and cobalt and reinvent battery chemistry and cell architecture without giving up energy density.
- The company aims to start battery pack production by late 2023, which it plans to host in North America. Ijaz said the company believes the production can be done economically.
The miles of range between charges will be able to give customers a round trip from Detroit to Chicago or towing a trailer.
