American carmaker Ford Motor Co. has partnered with artificial intelligence firm Argo AI and retail giant Walmart Inc. to roll out an autonomous vehicle delivery service, the company announced in a statement.
- Under the partnership, Argo will integrate its cloud-based infrastructure with Walmart’s online ordering platform to route orders and schedule package deliveries, using Ford self-driving vehicles.
- The autonomous vehicle delivery service will be piloted in Miami, Austin, Texas, and Washington, D.C. Argo and Ford have been testing self-driving technology in Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Palo Alto, along with operations in Miami and Washington.
- The initial integration is scheduled to start later this year, and will be made available to areas outside the pilot areas over time. It is expected to drive learnings on how autonomous tech can boost customer experiences.
The Argo and Ford partnership dates back to 2018, involving fleet management capabilities such as fueling, servicing, and cleaning of self-driving vehicles. F is up 0.23%, and WMT is down 0.12% premarket.
