Ethereum cofounder Vitalik Buterin predicts that the network could be scaled by as a factor of 100 in the next few months, according to a report.
- Buterin said scalability issues will be addressed by rollups as a second-layer solution. This will enable information to be stored on a separate, designated chain before bundling it into batches on the mainnet.
- Ethereum 2.0 will also include additions to the network such as “sharding” as a first-layer solution. This will split the network into smaller portions that would contain independent transaction history.
- “Rollups are coming very soon and we’re fully confident that by the time that we need any more scaling of that, sharding will have already been ready for a long time by then,” he said.
- Buterin said an Optimism or ZK-based rollup could solve the 100x scalability, but risks may prevent teams from switching over.
