El Salvador bought 21 bitcoins to celebrate the 21st day of the last month of the 21st year of the 21st century, according to a series of Tweets by President Nayib Bukele on Wednesday.

  • Bukele stated that he made the purchase at 21:21:21, and indicated that El Salvador’s land area is 21,000 square kilometers.
  • The president presented a screenshot of the transactions, amounting to more than $1 million, stating “got the receipt.”
  • Before the purchase, El Salvador was holding 1,120 bitcoins in its treasury, bringing its total now to 1,141 bitcoins.
  • The small 21,000 squares nation plans to acquire another $500 million worth of the world’s biggest cryptocurrency by market value, financed by the issuance of $1B worth of tokenized bonds.
