An anonymous source within Amazon told London business newspaper City A.M. that the e-commerce giant is looking to start accepting Bitcoin (BTC) payments by the close of 2021, according to a report by CoinTelegraph on Sunday.
- The source noted that executives at the company were seeking to add other established cryptocurrencies in the future.
- Amazon is also looking to create its own cryptocurrency, possibly as early as 2022.
- Market speculation about Amazon’s entry into the cryptocurrency market has been raging after the company advertised for a “Digital Currency and Blockchain Product Lead” on their job board last week.
- As per the job description, the new hire will design Amazon’s digital currency strategy product roadmap.
The new job posting is not the first crypto-related job. In February, the e-commerce giant announced it was recruiting a technical lead to be responsible for developing the new “Digital and Emerging Payments” platform.
