AMD posted a record-high CPU market share given the high demand for servers, based on the latest Data Center Server Market Tracker report of Omdia.
- AMD reported its best-ever quarter in the CPU market, driven mainly by high demand from hyper-scale cloud service providers and tech giant Google, amid concerns regarding order fulfillment due to constraints.
- The overall industry recorded 3.4 million servers shipped in the second quarter of the year, unchanged from the same quarter last year, in line with expectations. This resulted in $21.5 billion in vendor revenue.
- Omdia expects full-year server revenue to expand 11% to $92 billion, given the steady increase in server prices. Shipments will be mainly accounted for by compute- and data-intensive workloads such as AI and analytics.
Omdia Director Vlad Galabov said the latest figures were in line with expectations of renewed efforts of server vendors to provide infrastructure as a service.
